Start Your Recovery with Safe, Medically Supervised Detox

At Recovery Mountain in New Hampshire, we offer a full continuum of care for people struggling with addictions, beginning with our medically supervised detox program. During detox, patients are monitored by medical professionals around the clock in a safe and compassionate environment.

Detox at Recovery Mountain is often the first step in addiction treatment and is followed by residential treatment. Not all patients will need detox. A determination will be made prior to treatment, in consultation with the patient, based on what substance is being used, how long it’s been used, and what effects it has on the body.

Here’s what typically happens during detox:

  1. Evaluation: Medical staff assess what substances are in the patient’s system, the amount, and any co-occurring mental or physical health issues.
  2. Stabilization: The patient is monitored and may be given medications to ease withdrawal symptoms, prevent complications, and reduce cravings. Withdrawal management medications are typically given to counteract effects from alcohol, opiates and benzodiazepines. Comfort medication is given for clients detoxing from cocaine and methamphetamines.
  3. Ongoing Detox. Our detox program lasts 5-7 days, depending on the patient’s needs. During this time, clients have access to our addiction treatment programming, including therapy, educational classes, and process groups.
  4. Preparation for Treatment: Once the body is free of substances, staff help transition the person into a longer-term treatment program.

Detox is not a cure for addiction—it’s just the first step to help someone safely begin the recovery process.

How Do I Begin Detox at Recovery Mountain?

When you begin residential detox at Recovery Mountain, you’ll start with a full physical exam, a review of your medical history, and an assessment of your substance use, all conducted by a physician.

Based on your unique needs and potential withdrawal risks, our medical and therapeutic teams will create a personalized treatment plan. Most clients stay in detox for 5 to 7 days before moving on to either our residential or intensive outpatient programs.
